Do Improve My Memory

Do Improve My Memory

Do improve my memory, with spirulina? Really? Well it certainly worked for me. Spirulina might just be the answer if you suffer from those “senior moments”.

One, of the additional benefits of regularly taking spirulina, as originally recommended by my Alternative Remedy Doctor, for other health reasons, was that I noticed my thinking started to become much sharper and far clearer, the longer I took it. Above all, I noticed my memory was much quicker and sharper. I had previously, regularly suffered from “brain fog” and on quite frequent occasions, had difficulty remembering the simplest of things. But now, having taken spirulina regularly, my brain and cognitive health appeared to be improving. Was it the spirulina I asked myself?

You Are What You Eat

According to French author Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1), you are “what you eat”. If spirulina helps you to improve your diet, (it does); And it appears to support the mitigation of a number of different conditions,* then perhaps its logical to think, that regularly consuming spirulina, could also help you with your brain health. Ok you reasonably say, where is the evidence?

Do Improve My Memory

I No Longer Suffer from “Brain Fog”

About 6-9 months after I started to take spirulina regularly, I had that light bulb moment, my “memory seems to be improving”. And the longer I took it, my memory seemed sharper, much as it had been when I was much younger. Possibly, one of the reasons my memory appeared to be improving with brain fog becoming rarer and rarer, was due to the detox that the spirulina was helping me with. Or possibly it was simply due to the fact that the detox had cleaned out any internal candida I had. But to be honest, I was not entirely sure. We decided to investigate to see if there was any “evidence” to show that spirulina helps with brain and cognitive health.

We Have Found Some

We have found some evidence that may help you in your decision whether to try the spirulina super food.

World Food by Robert Henrikson

Animal studies in the Robert Henrikson book (2), refer to how spirulina helped “improve receptor function” in animal`s aged brains. At the time the book was produced, it was thought that spirulina contained vitamin B12. There now seems to be some controversy whether it does or not. Some sources suggest it does and others not. So what other evidence about brain health and spirulina is there?

There is Evidence

There is evidence that spirulina helps to prevent inflammation and this it would seem is a factor (3) in why it seems to help with cognitive functions for infants and older brains, describes Dr Gary Wenk (3). Adding; “Spirulina is an excellent source of highly potent antioxidants” and also “anti-inflammatory chemicals. These can benefit your brain health across” your “entire lifespan”.

That was clear for me. But we wanted further “evidence” to share, so we looked further.

Further Studies Offer Evidence Too

A 2018 study (4) from South Korea found; that spirulina; “exerts memory-improving effects” and goes on to describe that the antioxidant activities are possibly linked to the activity of β-carotene”. A 2011 study from Japan provides further evidence from an animal study that spirulina “may prevent the loss of memory”. That has certainly been my experience.

Providing you do not have any underlying health conditions and/or you have checked with your medical professional you may wish to try some yourself, to see if it helps you.*

Spirulina History of Use

Spirulina has been used for centuries but has in relative terms, compared to its long history, only recently been “rediscovered”. Possibly it’s something to do with our “collective memory!” as it goes back to the very beginning of our planet! There may also be a reference in the Bible in the book of Genesis, but we are not 100% sure. Read more about the details of its origin and its history on our page, “What is spirulina about?”

We have also prepared an FAQ page on spirulina, which you may wish to peruse to learn which other conditions this super food might help you with. Or not, if you have any underlying health conditions – we highlight these too.
